Product structure levels

Product, variant and item are the three possible levels through which articles can be represented in iPIM. You can either work with two levels or with three levels whereby the variant level (dimension level) is the optional level. The number of product structure levels is specified by the ipim.core.general.dimension.level.enabled property which can possess the following values:

  • false: In this configuration, there is the product level and the item level. A product is a mere virtual container that is used to group items whereas the items represent physical articles in the real world.
  • true: In this configuration, the variant level is situated between the product level and the item level. Using variants and items you can depict additional characteristics of articles. For example, the variant level can represent different colour variants of a piece of garment whereas the item level can represend the various sizes for each colour variant.
Note
Make sure to use a list of values attribute to define the variant level. And in the data model, the attribute must be configured as a dimension giving attribute for the item level.
