Import of JSON files

This chapter explains how to import catalog files in the JSON format using the example of a simple .json file.

Note
This chapter merely explains the import of a JSON format catalog file. In order to find an example for the complete catalog process, click here.

In this example, item data in the form of the following JSON string are imported, whereby the import is carried out as the initial import of a newly created catalog.

{
    "items": [
                {
                    "Article number": "654985",
                    "Brand": "Feiliao",
                    "Article name": "Ovolacron-3 Egg cooker",
                    "Model number": "Ovolacron-3",
                    "Devicetype EN": "Egg cooker",
                    "Devicetype DE": "Eierkocher",
                    "Item description EN": "Feiliao Ovolacron-3 Egg cooker",
                    "Item description DE": "Feiliao Ovolacron-3 Eierkocher",
                    "Body color": "Offwhite",
                },
                {
                    "Article number": "654986",
                    "Brand": "Feiliao",
                    "Article name": "Ovolacron-4 Egg cooker",
                    "Model number": "Ovolacron-4",
                    "Devicetype EN": "Egg cooker",
                    "Devicetype DE": "Eierkocher",
                    "Item description EN": "Feiliao Ovolacron-4 Egg cooker",
                    "Item description DE": "Feiliao Ovolacron-4 Eierkocher",
                    "Body color": "Offwhite",
                }
            ]
}

Step 1: Configure the import

In this step, the import for the exemplary catalog “Cat_16” is configured, whereby it is assumed that the catalog has already been created:

  1. Go to the catalog overview of iPIM Supply.
  1. Click on the catalog name to select it.
  1. Click on “Import” to call up the import configuration.
  1. From the “Import mode” menu, select the option “Full assortment” which is the import mode for the initial import of new items.
  2. From the “Format” menu, select the option “JSON (generic)” for the import of catalog files in the .json format.
  3. In the input field “Root node”, enter the JSON key which marks the beginning of the item data (in this example “items”).
  4. In the input field “Unique item ID column”, enter the name of the name/value pair that contains a unique item identifier (in this example the supplier item).
  5. In the input field “Supplier item name”, enter the name of the name/value pair that contains the item name of the supplier.
  6. Via the “Error level for constraint violation” menu, specify which message appears in case that the import contains items which can’t be allocated.
  7. Click on the Save button to save your settings. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear.

Step 2: Import the catalog file

In this step, the catalog file is imported:

  1. Go to the “Catalog process” tab.
  1. Click on the Execute button to call up the corresponding dialog box.
  1. Drag the catalog file over the drop area and drop it there or click on Browse files to call up the catalog file via the file manager. Following this, the file is loaded into the cache and the file name is shown below the drop area.
  2. Click on the Start import button to trigger the import. Once the import was completed successfully, a corresponding message appears.

The item data from the catalog file is now imported. For example, the corresponding items can be viewed in the “Item list” tab of the catalog.
