Create complex attributes

Since version 5.4.1: This attribute type can be used to visualize complex information structures. For this purpose, multiple “Complex attribute definition” attributes are subordinated to a “Complex” type attribute, so that they form a set of related attributes. The respective information structures can be visualised via such an attribute set, whereby these informations can be represented via one or more attribute sets with the same structure. The attribute sets can even be nested within each other.

Note
When importing complex attributes via iPIM Supply, it is requiered to import them as JSON strings. Click here to learn more.

Create “Complex” type attributes

In order to create a “Complex” type attribute, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the “Configurations” tab of the attribute configuration in iPIM CC.
  1. Click on the CREATE button in the uppermost card of the page. Following this, a new attribute dataset with empty input fields is generated.

Note
Make sure that the same attribute level is selected for all the attributes.

Relate attributes

In order to relate the attributes, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the “Related attributes” tab of the attribute configuration in iPIM CC.
  2. Call up the “Complex” type attribute.
  1. Click on the ADD button in the footer to call up the corresponding dialog box.
  2. Select an attribute. You can also select multiple attributes:
    • In order to select an attribute, transfer it from the left column to the right column. To do this, click on the attribute.
    • In order to deselect an attribute, transfer it from the right column back to the left column. To do this, click on the attribute.
  • In order to finish the process, click on the ACCEPT button. chevron to the right A success message is shown. The attributes are now related.
  • In order to cancel the process, click on the CANCEL button.
Note
Possibly modify the values in the “Order” column to bring the related attributes into the desired sequence.

Maintain “Complex” type attributes in the iPIM Portal

Complex attributes with number attributes

Using the example of a complex attribute that has subordinate number attributes, the following section shows how complex attributes are maintained in the iPIM Portal:

  1. For example, call up the respective product in the “Product details” app of the iPIM Portal.
  2. Go to the “Attributes” tab and add the attribute to the table as described here.
  1. In the table cell of the attribute, click on the Puzzle piece button to call up the corresponding dialog box.
  1. Click on the ADD ROW button in order to add a new table row with a set of input fields.
  2. Enter the appropriate attribute values in the various input fields.
  1. Possibly make further inputs:
    • In order to add an additional table row, click on the ADD ROW button. Following this, a new set table row appears. Enter the appropriate attribute values in the various input fields.
    • *In order to add a subordinate table row to a particular table row, move the mouse cursor over the table row to make a menu bar appear. Click on the Add button. Following this, a new table row appears. Enter the appropriate attribute values in the various input fields.
    • In order to remove a table row, tick the respective table row and click on the DELETE ROW button. Alternatively you can move the mouse cursor over the table row and click on the Delete button in the menu bar.
  2. Click on the ACCEPT button to finalise the attribute maintenance. Following this, the dialog box closes.
  3. Finally, click on the SAVE button in the footer to save the entered attribute values. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear. The attribute is now maintained.
Note
  • You can only delete whole table rows. Removing individual attributes (columns) is not possible.
  • Mandatory attributes need to be maintained. Otherwise the “ACCEPT” button remains inactive.
  • *In order to be able to add a subordinate row, you need to assign the attribute property Complex datatype: Hierarchy is allowed to a complex attribute and set it to “YES”.
INFO
If you move the mouse cursor over the table cell of the complex attribute, the values that are maintained for the attribute, are shown in a mouseover screen. This is shown in the right-hand screenshot.

Complex attributes with localized string attributes

Using the example of a complex attribute that has subordinate localized string attributes, the following section shows how complex attributes are maintained in the iPIM Portal:

  2. Maintain the various input fields:
    • Double-click in the table cell of a attribute.
    • Enter a value and leave the table cell.
    • Repeat the steps mentioned above for the other attributes.
  3. Possibly add a further table row. To do so, click on the ADD ROW button and enter the respective values in the input fields which appear afterwards.

Alternatively to entering values in the table cells directly, there is also the option to enter values for a string attribute via the right-hand flyout text editor. Click here to learn more about this.
  1. Click on the ACCEPT button to finish the maintaining of the attribute. Following this, the dialog box closes.
  2. Finally, click on the SAVE button in the footer to save the entered attribute values. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear. The attribute is now maintained.
Note
Deleting a table row in one locale and the resulting rearrangement of the table rows affects all the locales. Any values that have been maintained are also deleted in all locales. This is independent of whether the various attributes are mandatory attributes or optional attributes.

Edit string attributes in the text editor

Alternatively to entering values in the table cells directly, there is also the option to enter values for a string attribute via the right-hand flyout text editor. To do so, proceed as follows:

  1. In the table cell that you want to edit, click on the Edit button. Following this, the right-hand flyout menu unfolds.
  2. Enter a value in the input field. You can also enter multiple values and separate them by line breaks. The line breaks between the values are later taken over to the table cell, even though in the table cell, the values are shown next to each other.
  • In order to take the entered value over to the table cell, click on the ACCEPT button. Following this, the text editor collapses and the entered value is shown in the table cell.
  • In order to cancel the process and to dismiss the entered value, click on the CANCEL button.
Note
In order to be able to enter an attribute value via the flyout text editor, you need to assign the attribute property iPIM UI display: Use rich text editor to it and set the property to “YES”.
INFO
Instead of using the “ACCEPT” button to take over an entered value, you can also click in the empty space below the buttons.
