Create taxonomies

Taxonomies are directory structures for organizing products. There are three different channel types for taxonomies. These are “Primary iPIM Classification” for the master data maintenance, “Secondary iPIM Classification” for arranging products in an alternative directory structure and “Sales channels” for arranging products according to the directory structure of a related sales channel.

This chapter explains how to create a taxonomy using the example of a sales taxonomy that can only be called up and edited by particular users.

Step 1: Select the channel type

In this step, the channel type is selected:

  • From the menu in the uppermost card, select the option “Sales channels [SALE]”

Step 2: Create the taxonomy

In this step, the taxonomy is created. Taxonomies consist of a publication and its subordinate version:

  1. Create the CREATE PUBLICATION button to call up the corresponding dialog box.
  1. Enter a unique identifier in the “Publication ID” field.
  2. Click on the More button in the “Name” field to proceed to another slider that has various input fields for entering the multilingual taxonomy names.
  1. Enter the multilingual taxonomy names in the respective input fields. You do not have to fill in all the input fields.
  2. Click on the  BACK button to get back to the previous slider.
  1. Change the entry in the “Version ID” field so that the version ID deviates from the publication ID.
  2. Specify a right as the edit right. Among other things, users who possess the respective right can create, edit or delete categories as long as they also possess the corresponding action rights. To do so, click on the More button in the “User right” field to proceed to the following slider that shows the rights directory.
  1. Use the text search to filter the list of available rights by a search term.
  2. Click on the right to select it. Following this, you will be directed back to the previous slider.
  1. Specify a right as the view right. For example, users who possess this right can call up the taxonomy in the “Taxonomies” app of the iPIM Portal. To do so, click on the More button in the “View right” field. In the following slider, select a right as described above.
  2. Click on the SAVE button to finalise the creation of the taxonomy. If the process was successful, a corresponding message appears.

     

    The taxonomy is now created.
