FAQ
Which properties are mandatory when creating an attribute?
The mandatory properties are: Attribute ID, Attribute type, Scope, Attribute level, and the selection in the “Mandatory field” menu that specifies whether the attribute is a mandatory attribute or an optional attribute.
What do the “Length” and “Min. length” fields mean?
In case of string type attributes, the “Length” field determines the maximum number of digits allowed for an attribute value, and the “Min. length” field determines the minimum number of digits allowed. In case of number attributes, these values determine the largest and the smallest number, respectively, that is allowed for an attribute value.
What is the “Default value” field used for?
The “Default value” field is used to enter a default value for an attribute. For newly created products, this default value is assigned to the respective attribute when the products are created.
What conditions must be met for a default value to be assigned to newly created products?
The default value setting only applies to newly created products; the default value is not assigned to existing products. In addition, the respective attribute needs to be specified as mandatory, which can either be done in the “Configuration” tab or, in the case of category attributes, on the category level. Furthermore, the property ipim.core.attribute.creation.newproduct.scopeall needs to possess the value “MANDATORY”.
Which attribute types can units of measurement be applied to?
Units of measurement can be applied to the following attribute types: “List of values, single”, “List of values, multiple”, “Number, decimal”, “Number, integer”, “Number range, decimal”, “Number range, integer”, and “Composition, listed”.
When do changes made to an existing attribute take effect?
After saving your changes, the changes will not become active until the next synchronization in the iPIM Portal.
What is the difference between Attribute type and Scope?
The attribute type defines the data type of an attribute, meaning which kind of characters can be entered as a value, how the entered data is treated, and how it is formatted. For example, a number attribute can only accept numbers as a value, whereas a string attribute accepts a sequence of nearly any characters. The scope, on the other hand, defines where and for what purpose an attribute is used, for example, whether it is used to represent properties of products, categories, prices or digital assets.
Why can’t an attribute be deleted?
Attributes with maintained values cannot be deleted. Before such an attribute can be deleted, the attribute values of the attribute must first be removed from all relevant products.
How do I relate an attribute to a content object?
First introduced in version 5.6: via the appropriate dialog box, you can relate an attribute to an existing content object or to a newly created one. To do so, click on the Content objects button to call up the dialog box, then relate an existing content object to the called-up attribute, or create a new content object and relate it directly.
What is the purpose of assigning an attribute to a Group?
The “Group” menu is used to select the attribute group an attribute is assigned to. Attribute groups can be specified in the “Types” area of the “System setup” section in iPIM CC.
