Mapping

Using category mappings you can set that products are automatically mapped to certain secondary or sales taxonomies respectively their categories. As soon as a category mapping for a certain category was defined, all the newly created products of this category are automatically mapped to the related taxonomies respectively their categories. Global filters

Using the “Define global filters” function you can create filters on the root level of a taxonomie. Global filters are inherited by all the categories of the respective taxonomy. By this, you don’t have to create them for each category individually. A global filter overrules possibly existing category mappings. For example, for a sales taxonomy you can define a global filter that effects that products that possess a certain attribute value aren’t mapped to the sales taxonomy though there are category mappings in place which determine that all the products from particular categories of a source taxonomy are mapped to corresponding categories of that particular sales taxonomy.

In order to create a global filter, proceed as follows:

  1. In the “Category/Mapping” card, move the toggle switch to the “Target tree” position.
  2. Select the appropriate target taxonomy from the menu. Following this, the corresponding category directory is shown below the menu.
  3. In the category directory, click on the taxonomy to the select it.
  4. In the lower area of the “Category/Mapping” card, click on the DEFINE GLOBAL FILTER button. Then a new entry will appear in the table of the “Category/Relation” card. The selected taxonomy is listed as the target node.
  5. Click on the newly created entry to select it.
  6. In the “Filters” card, click on the CREATE button to call up the corresponding dialog box. Here you can select the attribute which shall serve as the filter parameter.
  7. Select an attribute:
    • In order to select an attribute, transfer it from the left column to the right column. To do this, click on the attribute.
    • In order to deselect an attribute, transfer it from the right column back to the left column. To do this, click on the attribute.
  8. Click on the APPLY button to assume the selected attribute as the filter parameter. Following this, the dialog box closes and the selected attribute appears in the table of the “Filters” card.
  9. Configure the filter:
    • In the table cell of the “Value” column, enter a filter expression (i.e. the attribute value to be filtered by). Or, if the filter parameter is, for example, a multiple list of values, select an attribute value from the menu.
    • In the table cell of the “Locale” column, possibly select a data language.
    • In the table cell of the “Condition” column, select an operator from the menu. The operator determines, for example, wether the filter filters by equal or non-equal character strings or by greater or lesser numeric values.
  10. Click on the SAVE button to finish the process and to create the filter. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear. The global filter is now created and will be executed whenever a corresponding category mapping is initiated.
Note
  • Global filters can only be created on the root level of a taxonomy.
  • The “DEFINE GLOBAL FILTER” button is only active if the toggle switch is in the “Target tree” position.

FAQ

What is the difference between the operators available for combining multiple filters of a category mapping?

With the AND operator, the conditions of all the filters need to be met for a product to be assigned to the corresponding category. With the OR operator, it is sufficient if the condition of at least one filter is met.

What is the purpose of filters within a category mapping?

Using filters you can further specify a category mapping, for example by defining that only products with a particular attribute value are mapped to a target category, such as products from the category “T-shirts” which possess the colour value “Red” being automatically mapped to the category “Red clothes”.

What do global filters do and what are they used for?

Using global filters you can create a filter on the root level of a taxonomy that is inherited by all the categories of the respective taxonomy, so that the filter doesn’t have to be created for each category individually. Global filters overrule possibly existing category mappings.

Why can a global filter override existing category mappings?

A global filter overrules possibly existing category mappings. For example, for a sales taxonomy you can define a global filter that effects that products that possess a certain attribute value aren’t mapped to the sales taxonomy though there are category mappings in place which determine that all the products from particular categories of a source taxonomy are mapped to corresponding categories of that particular sales taxonomy.

At which level of a taxonomy can global filters be created?

Global filters can only be created on the root level of a taxonomy.

When is the DEFINE GLOBAL FILTER button active?

The DEFINE GLOBAL FILTER button is only active if the toggle switch in the “Category/Mapping” card is in the “Target tree” position.
