FAQ

What are types in the iPIM system?

Types are used to configure different product data types, such as text, prices, product relationships or digital assets. Type values can be used to define the various variants of these data types (e.g. “Selling price” as a type value for price types or “Short description” for text types).

Can new types be created or existing types deleted?

No. Types are implemented during the configuration of the iPIM system. Users cannot create new types or delete existing ones; they can only edit certain type properties.

How do I select an existing type?

  1. Click on the “Select type” field to open the dropdown menu.
  2. Find the desired type (using the text search or the column header tools if necessary).
  3. Click on the type to confirm your selection. The identifier and name will then be displayed in the field, and the subordinate type values will be listed in the “Type values” card.

How do I create a new type value?

  1. First, select the relevant type.
  2. Click CREATE in the footer.
  3. Enter an ID and the names for the various locales.
  4. Optionally, define an edit right, a view right and a numerical value for the order.
  5. Click SAVE.

What is the difference between edit and view rights for type values?

Edit rights: Users with these rights can edit records for the relevant type value and create new records. If no edit rights are specified, all users can perform these actions. View rights: Users with these rights can view records for the relevant type value. If no view rights are specified, all users can view the records.

What are standard type properties and optional type properties?

Standard type properties (such as name, edit and view rights, client/context rights and category relations) are displayed by default. Optional type properties must be shown or hidden manually via the relevant dialog box. Note that not every property is applicable to every type (e.g. some are only relevant for text types).

How can I make a type value a mandatory type for a specific category?

This is done via a category relation:

  1. Select the type and double-click the cell in the “Categories” column in the type value’s table row.
  2. Click ADD, select the parent taxonomy, select the desired category and confirm this by clicking ADD again.
  3. Click CLOSE.
Note
For this to take effect, the property ipim.core.general.types.classification.dependent must be set to “true”.

How do I set a maximum text length for a text type?

  1. In the “Select type” menu, select the option “Text type [TEXT_TYPE]”.
  2. Ensure that the “Maximum length (texts)” type property is shown in the table.
  3. Click in the relevant cell in the text type’s row and enter the numerical value for the maximum length.
  4. Click SAVE. Texts that exceed the specified length can then no longer be saved.

Can content types be edited?

Yes, provided that the property ipim.admin.show-edit-content-type-config-action is set to “true”. For content types, you can configure which content attributes, content text types, content digital asset types and content link types (All, Selection or None) may be used.
