FAQ
Which types of data can be edited in the “Translations” section?
In the directory structure, you can select object types such as attributes, attribute values, types, units of measurement (UOMs) and content objects, as well as versions. For these object types, translations can be displayed, edited, exported, imported, or translated automatically.
In which ways can translations be created or updated in iPIM CC?
Translations can be added or edited directly in the table. Alternatively, data can be exported as a file, edited externally and re-imported, or translated directly via an external translation service.
What is the purpose of the “Missing translations only” menu?
If YES is selected here, only incompletely translated data entries are shown in the table. This makes it easier to work specifically on translations that are still missing.
What is the purpose of the “File locale” setting during export?
The file locale determines, for example, the language of the table header row in the exported file, regardless of which locales are exported content-wise.
How can the export file be kept clear?
If the option YES is selected in the “Missing translations only” menu before exporting, only the data entries not yet translated are exported.
What is the difference between “Export” and “Export selection”?
“Export” exports the data of an entire object type or version. “Export selection” has additionally been available for the object type “Attribute Values” since version 5.5.1 and allows you to select only specific attributes and the corresponding attribute values via a multi-step dialog box.
What must be considered when selecting locales in the import dialog box?
Make sure to select all the locales that actually occur in the import file, so that the translations are imported correctly.
How does the “Missing translations only” menu affect the Translate function?
With NO, all entries are translated, whereby existing translations may be overwritten. With YES, only entries for which no translation exists yet in the target language are translated.
