Transformation (GR source catalog)

In this step of the catalog process, the supplier attributes are mapped to the corresponding iPIM Supply attributes and written on them in order to synchronize the data model of the supplier and the iPIM data model. Specially configurable transformation rules, cleansing rules and validation rules support this process.

Configure the transformation

In order to configure the transformation of the imported items and the associated article data, proceed as follows:

  1. In the "Catalog Process" tab, click on "Transformation" or select the option "Transformation" from the "Configuration" menu to access the transformation configuration page.
  1. In the "Transformation rules" area, define the required transformation rules for the attribute mapping. These rules handle the mapping of the supplier attributes to the corresponding iPIM Supply attributes. Click here for further information.
  2. In the "Default separator and number format" area, define the standard format for numbers as well as the separator for the individual values of a value set. Click here for further information.
  3. In the "Price attributes" area, define the appropriate price attributes. Click here for further information.
  4. In the "Context attributes" area, define the appropriate context-specific attributes. Click here for further information.
  5. In the "Localized attributes" area, define the appropriate locale-specific attributes.
  6. In the "Cleansing rules" area, define the appropriate cleansing rules. Click here for further information.
  7. In the "Validation rules" area, define the appropriate validation rules. Click here for further information.

  • In order to save your settings, click on the Save button. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear. The transformation of the imported items and the associated item data is now configured and can be carried out.
  • In order to cancel the processand to dismiss your settings, click on the Cancel button.

Note
  • For the later synchronisation it is required that an attribute mapping to the appropriate categories of the primary iPIM classification is set up. In case that the imported supplier article data do not contain category information, you can add a transformation rule for the iPIM Supply attribute “iPIM Klassifikation (IPIM_PURCHASE_CATEGORY)” and select the option “<Empty>” as the supplier attribute. Then set up a cleansing rule of the type “Setting default value for attribute” and specify a category of the primary iPIM classification as default value.
  • If you work with three product levels, make sure that you also set up an attribute mapping for the variant key.

INFO
It might not be necessary to make settings in every area. This depends on the imported article data. Merely the transformation rules for the attribute mapping are mandatory.

Execute the transformation

In order to carry out the transformation of imported items and the associated article data, proceed as follows:

  1. Call up the appropriate catalog and go to the "Catalog process" tab.
  2. In the "Transformation" section, click on the Play button to call up the corresponding prompt window.
  3. Click on the Yes button to trigger the transformation. Following this, a corresponding process message appears and a transformation statistic is shown. Depending on whether the process was successful, partially successful or unsuccessful, the status traffic light changes to the corresponding color.

Transformation report

The transformation report shows a list of essential information about the most recent transformation. These are broken down by processes, events and results. In addition, there is a list of general messages and error reports. The latter are grouped in separate sections by errors and by items.

Access the transformation report

  • In order to access the transformation report for the most recent transformation, click on the "Transformation report" button. Then you will be directed to the corresponding overview page.

Unfold and collapse info sections

  • In order to unfold a particular info section, click on theunfoldbutton in the respective section.
  • In order to collapse a particular info section, click on thecollapsebutton in the respective section.

Use report actions

The report sections lists the error and warning messages which occured during the transformation of the imported items and article data. The reports are grouped by errors and by items. At this point, you can either correct the errors that have occurred using the appropriate report actions or you can dismiss the related messages.

Map values

When importing attributes with a value set, it can happen that values from the supplier's value set could not be mapped to values from the value set of the corresponding iPIM Supply attribute. This action can be used to map the values manually. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. In the table row of the respective error message, click on the value mapping button to call up the corresponding dialog box. Here you can see an overview of the imported supplier attribute values and the possibly already mapped iPIM Supply attribute values.
  1. Make the appropriate value mappings:
    • In order to map a supplier attribute value to a value from the value set of the corresponding iPIM Supply attribute, select the matching value from the menu in the "iPIM Supply attribute values" column .
    • In order to ignore an imported supplier attribute value, click on the ignore button in the respective table row. Then the table row is greyed out. In the following process steps the attribute value will neither be approved nor synchronized.
    • In order to remove a supplier attribute value from the table, click on the remove button  in the respective table row. Following this, the supplier attribute value vanishes from the table.
    • Since version 5.6.2: In order to ignore multiple supplier attribute values at once, mark the respective cells and click on the ignore button  below the table. In order to mark multiple table rows, use "Shift + mouse-click" resp. "Strg + mouse-click".
    • Since version 5.6.2: In order to remove multiple supplier attribute values at once, mark the respective cells and click on the remove button below the table. In order to mark multiple table rows, use "Shift + mouse-click" resp. "Strg + mouse-click".
    • In order to add a supplier attribute value manually, enter the supplier attribute value in the "Supplier attribute" field  and click on the Add button . Following this, a new table row is shown. Afterwards select the matching value from the menu in the "iPIM Supply attribute values" column.

  • In order to save your settings, click on the Save button . The dialog closes and a success message is shown. The value mappings are now set up.
  • In order to cancel the process and discard your settings, click on the Cancel button .

INFO
  • Possibly tick the checkbox “Show automatically mapped values” so that, in addition to the unmapped values, the values that could be automatically mapped are also listed. Or tick the checkbox “Show only unmapped values” so that the table only shows the supplier attribute values that have not been assigned yet.
  • Using the corresponding menu, you can set how many supplier attributes are listed on a table page. To do this, select the desired number.

Create missing lookup values

When importing supplier attributes, it can can happen that values for certain locales of a localized attribute are missing. Using this action you can add the missing values. To do so, proceed as follows:

  1. In the table row of the respective error message, click on the Create missing lookup values in order to call up the corresponding dialog box.
  1. Optional: Click in the "Identifier" field and adjust the identifier.
  2. Enter the attribute values for the individual locales in the appropriate input fields.
  • In order to complete the addition of missing attribute values, click on the Save button . A success message is shown. The new values are now assigned to the attribute. They are transferred to iPIM CC and inserted into the value set of the corresponding attribute there. For example, they can be viewed in the attribute configuration.
  • In order cancel the addition of the attribute values, click on the Cancel button .

Note
The property ipim.supply.process.transformation.missing-lookup-values.enabled needs to be set to “true”. Otherwise this action is not available and can not be used.
Note
After adding the missing value set values, the imported supplier attribute value must still be mapped to the new value set value.

Map purchase categories

To enable synchronisation at a later stage, it is necessary to set up an attribute mapping to the corresponding categories in the primary iPIM classification.

Note
If the user has not created an attribute mapping to the primary taxonomy, the mapping is set during the transformation, with the value “<Empty>” assigned to the mapping.

Map purchase categories directly

Using this action you can map items without a category mapping to categories of the primary purchase taxonomy. In order to map an item to a category, proceed as follows:

  1. In the table row of the respective error message, click on the map purchase categories button to call up the corresponding dialog box. Here you can see a table that lists the imported items which couldn't be mapped to any category of the primary taxonomy.
  1. In the table row of the respective item, click in the input field of the "IPIM_PURCHASE_CATEGORY" column .Chevron rightThe category directory of the primary taxonomy is shown.
  2. In the category directory, click on the new category to select it. The appropriate category name is then shown in the input field.
Possibly use the text search to filter the list of categories by a search term.
  • In order to complete the assignment of purchase categories, click on the Save button . A success message is displayed.
  • In order cancel the process and dismiss your changes, click on the Cancel button .

INFO
  • Alternatively, you can click on the “Map category” button and select the new category via the dialog box that appears afterwards.
  • Possibly tick the “Show only unmapped values” checkbox to show only items without a category mapping.

FAQ

Basics

What is the transformation in the catalog process of the supplier catalog?

The transformation is the second step in the catalog process of a catalog and follows the import of the item data. In this step, the supplier attributes are mapped to the corresponding iPIM Supply attributes in order to synchronize the data model of the supplier and the iPIM data model. Specially configurable transformation rules, cleansing rules and validation rules support this process.

Which types of rules are used in the transformation?

Three types of rules are used: transformation rules handle the mapping of the supplier attributes to the corresponding iPIM Supply attributes, cleansing rules optimize the imported values, and validation rules check the data quality. All three rule types are defined as part of the transformation configuration.

Why is an attribute mapping for the categories necessary?

For the later synchronisation it is required that an attribute mapping to the corresponding categories of the primary iPIM classification is set up in addition to the general attribute mapping. Without this mapping, items cannot be correctly assigned to a category, which affects the synchronisation.

Configure the Transformation

Is it necessary to make settings in every area of the transformation configuration?

No, whether a particular area is actually needed depends on the imported article data. It might not be necessary to make settings in every area — merely the transformation rules for the attribute mapping are mandatory.

What needs to be considered when working with three product levels?

If you work with three product levels, make sure that you also set up an attribute mapping for the variant key. Without this mapping, the correct assignment of the variants is not ensured.

Troubleshooting in the Transformation Report

How can an incorrect value mapping for attributes with a value set be corrected?

If automatic mapping was not possible, click on the corresponding button in the table row of the respective error message to call up the "Value Mapping" dialog box, which shows the imported supplier attribute values together with the values of the corresponding iPIM Supply attribute. There, you can manually select a matching value from the value set for each supplier attribute value and then save the mapping.

What is the difference between ignoring and removing a supplier attribute value in the value mapping?

If a value is ignored, the table row remains but is greyed out, and in the following process steps the attribute value will neither be approved nor synchronized. If a value is removed instead, it vanishes completely from the table.

How do you add missing attribute values for individual locales?

Clicking on the corresponding button in the table row of the respective error message calls up a dialog box in which the missing values for the individual locales can be entered directly in the appropriate input fields. After saving, the new values are assigned to the attribute and transferred to iPIM CC, where they are inserted into the value set of the attribute.

What prerequisite must be met in order to add missing attribute values?

For this action to be available, the property ipim.supply.process.transformation.missing-lookup-values.enabled needs to be set to "true". Otherwise this action is not available and can not be used.

Rights and Permissions

How do newly added rights for users become effective outside of the regular synchronisation?

In order to make newly added rights effective for users outside of the regular synchronisation, a master data synchronisation for users and roles must be carried out manually in the "Schedules" tab. Without this step, the rights only become effective with the next regular synchronisation.

INFO
  • In order to be able to access iPIM Supply, a user needs to be related to at least one supplier.
  • In order to make newly added rights effective for users outside of the regular synchronisation, you must carry out a master data synchronisation for users and roles. This can be done in the “Schedules” tab.
  • The identifier of rights are not shown correctly here as hyphens are shown as half square dashs. In order to search for a particular right in iPIM CC, copy the key to the clipboard and search for the key.
