Validation rules (overview)

Validation rules can be used to define automated validity checks for the imported item data of a catalog. The validation is based on the specified rules. It is carried out in the course of the transformation and applied to the individual items of a catalog to check the technical and content data quality of the items. Learn more

Rules on the item level

On the item level, the following rule types are available:

Rule type Description Scope
Attribute consistency check Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether specific attributes comply with a specific condition. Such a condition could be that the value of an attribute is the same as a specified comparison value. Catalog-specific and global
Category-related lookup value validator First introduced in version 5.5.2: This validation rule can be used to check list of values attributes if they possess values that are not valid in the categories assigned to the respective items. Global
Conditional attribute validation First introduced in version 5.4.2: Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether specific the values of a iPIM Supply attribute comply with a certain condition. Such a condition could be that the values of the respective attribute is the same as a specified comparison value. Catalog-specific and global
Conditional calculation validation First introduced in version 5.4.2: For example, a validation rule of this type can be used to compare the values of two iPIM Supply attributes. The comparison is based on a specified calculation with an allowed tolerance between the calculation result and the actual attribute values. Among other things, this rule could be used to check whether the gap between sales prices and purchase prices complies with a specified price calculation. Catalog-specific and global
Conditional existence check Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether two related attributes both possess and attribute value. Catalog-specific and global
Dependent attribute validator A validation rule of this type can be used check for value list attributes with dependent value mappings whether the value pairings between the imported supplier attributes match the value mappings that are established between the corresponding iPIM attributes. Catalog-specific and global
Dirty words Validation rules of this type can be utilized to check imported item data whether indidual supplier attributes contain prohibited words or text fragments. Catalog-specific and global
Duplicate asset validator Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether digital assets exist more than once for individual items. Global
Duplicate item validator Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data if the corresponding items already exist in iPIM Supply. In the process, it is checked whether an imported value for a specified reference attribute already exists for an item in iPIM Supply. Global
iPIM duplicate check A validation rule of this type can be used to check imported item data whether items with the same attribute values as the imported items already exist in the iPIM system. Catalog-specific and global
Mandatory attribute validator A validation rule of this type can be used to check whether all the mandatory category attributes of the respective category have the corresponding supplier attribute values mapped to them. Global
Not associated category attributes A validation rule of this type can be used to check whether the category attributes, to which the imported supplier attributes are mapped, correspond to the category of the iPIM classification to which the imported items are mapped. Global
VAT validator Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported price data whether the difference between gross prices and net prices is plausible. Catalog-specific and global

Rule type Description Scope
Barcode Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether imported EANs, ISINs or UPCs are valid identification numbers. Catalog-specific and global
Contains strings Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether the values of particular string-type attributes contain specified strings or not. Catalog-specific and global
GTIN13 check sum Validation rules of this type can be used to check whether imported GTINs (EANs) are valid. Catalog-specific and global
Number comparison Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether particular attribute values comply with the specified requirements regarding the size of number values. Catalog-specific and global
String length check Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether particular attribute values comply with the specified requirements regarding the length of strings. Catalog-specific and global
Word case Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether particular attribute values comply with the specified requirements regarding the use of upper and lower case letters. Catalog-specific and global
