Conditional existence check

Validation rules of this type can be used to check imported item data whether two related attributes both possess and attribute value. For a particular source attribute you can specify that an item is validated successfully if also the comparison attribute possesses a value. Optionally, you can also define that the validation also fails if the comparison attribute has an attribute value but the source attribute does not.

Note
In the process of a transformation, the validation rule is applied to the transformed iPIM Supply attributes.

In order to set up a validation rule of this type, proceed as follows:

  1. Select the rule type “Attribute consistency check” from the menu.
  2. Click on the Add button to call up the corresponding dialog box.
  1. Enter a name for the validation rule in the input field “Title”.
  2. Possibly enter a short description in the input field “Description”.
  3. Possibly tick the “Activate rule” checkbox to activate the rule.
  4. Possibly tick the “External rule” checkbox to define the rule as an external rule so that the validation result is also visible in iPIM SSP.
  1. Possibly tick the “Internal rule” checkbox to define the rule as an internal rule. An internal rule can be used as a subordinate rule of validation rules of particular ruletypes (since version 5.4.2).
  2. From the “Attribute” menu, select the source attribute.
  3. From the “Compared attribute” menu, select a comparison attribute.
  4. Possibly tick the checkbox “Bidirectional” so that the validation works in both directions. This means, that the validation also fails if comparison attribute has a value but the source attribute has not.
  5. Possibly add further attribute pairs:
    1. Click on the Add button. Following this, another set of input fields appears.
    2. Define the attribute pair as described above.
    3. Repeat these steps for any further attribute pair.
  6. Determine the behaviour in case of an unsuccessful validation. In order to do so, select the appropriate option from the “Result of validation rule hits” menu:
    • Error: The corresponding items are marked as invalid.
    • Warning: The corresponding items are flagged with a warning.
    • Rule: A subordinate rule is carried out. Select the subordinate rule from the menu (since version 5.4.2).
  7. Possibly configure a test run and carry it out in order to check if the configuration of the rule is valid.

  • In order to finish the configuration, click on the Save button. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear. The validation rule of is now set up.
  • In order to cancel the process, click on the Cancel button.
