A validation rule of this type can be used to check whether imported GTINs (EANs) are valid. For this purpose, the thirteenth and last number is calculated on the basis of the first twelve numbers. If the thirteenth number of an imported GTIN equals the result of the calculation, the imported GTIN is considered valid.
In the process of a transformation, the validation rule is applied to the transformed iPIM Supply attributes.
In order to set up a validation rule of this type, proceed as follows:
- Select the rule type “Barcode” from the menu.
- Click on the
button to call up the corresponding dialog box.
- Enter a name for the validation rule in the input field “Title”.
- Possibly enter a short description in the input field “Description”.
- From the “Attribute” menu, select the attribute whose attribute value is to be checked. In this case, this is the attribute that the imported EANs are mapped to.
- Possibly tick the “Activate rule” checkbox to activate the rule.

- Possibly tick the “External rule” checkbox to define the rule as an external rule so that the validation result is also visible in iPIM SSP.
- Possibly tick the “Internal rule” checkbox to define the rule as an internal rule. An internal rule can be used as a subordinate rule of validation rules of particular ruletypes (since version 5.4.2).
- Determine the behaviour in case of an unsuccessful validation. In order to do so, select the appropriate option from the “Result of validation rule hits” menu:
- Error: The corresponding items are marked as invalid.
- Warning: The corresponding items are flagged with a warning.
- Rule: A subordinate rule is carried out. Select the subordinate rule from the menu (since version 5.4.2).
- Possibly configure a test run and carry it out in order to check if the configuration of the rule is valid.
- In order to finish the configuration, click on the
button. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear. The validation rule of is now set up. - In order to cancel the process, click on the
button.
