String length check

A validation rule of this type can be used to check imported item data whether particular attribute values comply with the specified requirements regarding the length of strings.

Note
  • In the process of a transformation, the validation rule is applied to the transformed iPIM Supply attributes.
  • Validation rules of this type can only be applied to string type attributes.

In order to set up a validation rule of this type, proceed as follows:

  1. Select the rule type “String length check” from the “Choose rule type” menu.
  2. Click on the Add button to call up the corresponding dialog box.
  1. Enter a name for the validation rule in the input field “Title”.
  2. Possibly enter a short description in the input field “Description”.
  3. From the “Attribute” menu, select an iPIM Supply attribute whose attribute value is to be checked.
  4. Possibly tick the “Activate rule” checkbox to activate the rule.
  5. Possibly tick the “External rule” checkbox to define the rule as an external rule so that the validation result is also visible in iPIM SSP.
  1. Possibly tick the “Internal rule” checkbox to define the rule as an internal rule. An internal rule can be used as a subordinate rule of validation rules of particular ruletypes (since version 5.4.2).
  2. Select an operator from the drop-down menu “Operator”:
    • < (Less than): In order to pass the validation, the string length has be shorter than the comparison value.
    • > (Greater than): In order to pass the validation, the string length has be greater than the comparison value.
    • ≤ (Less than or equal): In order to pass the validation, the string length has be shorter than the comparison value or equal to it.
    • ≥ (Greater than or equal): In order to pass the validation, the string length has be greater than the comparison value or equal to it.
    • = (Equal): In order to pass the validation, the string length has be equal to the comparison value.
  3. Enter a comparison value in the input field “Comparison value”. In the process of the transformation, the actual length of the respective attribute values is compared to the specified comparison value.
  4. Determine the behaviour in case of an unsuccessful validation. In order to do so, select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu “Result of validation rule hits”:
    • Error: The corresponding items are marked as invalid.
    • Warning: The corresponding items are flagged with a warning.
    • Rule: A subordinate rule is carried out. Select the subordinate rule from the menu (since version 5.4.2).
  5. Possibly configure a test run and carry it out in order to check if the configuration of the rule is valid.
  • In order to finish the configuration, click on the Save button. If the process was successful, a corresponding message will appear. The validation rule of is now set up.
  • In order to cancel the process, click on the Cancel button.
