Workflow examples

This sections shows various examples for workflows.

Example 1: Sequential workflow with four workbox tasks

This example shows a simple linear workflow that goes through four sequential workflow tasks bevor it reaches an end event.

The individual tasks of the workflow are processed in a sequential sequence. First, a product is passed to the workflow via a specified trigger event, where the product is assigned to the first task of the workflow. For example, the following workflow can be configured in a way that each task checks if a specified condition is fulfilled using an appropriate JavaScript rule. If a condition is fulfilled, the workflow proceeds to the following task. After successfully completing the fourth task, the workflow reaches the end event and is completed.

INFO
For example, each workbox task can be configured in a way that the corresponding status traffic lights switches to the state “Green” after completing a task successfully.

Example 2: Workflow with split gateway, parallel flow and join task

This example shows a paralllel workflow that has a split gateway a the beginning, two parallel paths and a join task as the last step before the end event.

First, a product is passed to the workflow via a specified trigger event, whereby the product is assigned to the first and the third task of the workflow. Following this, both flows can be processed parallely. They can lead to a fourth task independently of each other. That means, the fourth task can be reached after finishing the first and the second task without the third step being completed. After finishing all the four tasks, the workflow is completed.

Note
The workflow editor shows a warning regarding a missing joint. Nevertheless, the workflow works.

Example 3: Workflow with split gateway, parallel flow and join gateway

This example shows a parallel workflow with a split gateway after the first workbox task, two parallel paths and a join gateway before the workflow proceeds to the final two tasks.

First, a product is passed to the workflow via a specified trigger event, whereby the product is assigned to the first task of the workflow. After finishing the first task, the product is passed to the second and the third task. Only after finishing both tasks, the product is passed to the fourth and then to the fifth task before it reaches the end event. Afterwards, the workflow is completed.

Note
In this example, no prerequisite is specified for the fourth task. That means, no condition has to be met to proceed to the next task. Just an attribute value is set. The task is merely there to prevent that the workflow jumps directly to the end event after completing the second and the third task.
